12:27 pm - New to List

turdoken

Greetings Fellow Garbsluts! My name is 'dok and I'm a garbslut.....I would try an intervention but I love making garments, especially anything east of Germany and west of China (or Russian). I was a garbslut for Haloween as a kid and nowadays, more income has addicted me to fine fabrics, pearls and fur, like a medieval Russian Liberace! Currently branching to the Ladies of the Family and swathing them in Eastern Splendor as well (free closetspace).

3:35 pm - introduction

meriae
I am a very green newbie in the SCA. I've been to an event, but only as an ersatz merchant, filling in for a friend who merchants at SCA events. I've been making garb for about 12 years as part of a... *runs and hides behind something before she explains* Larp-er in a fantasy medieval larp.

My First Official SCA Event as a person with a persona and a desire to interact in the current middle ages will be Pennsic, as I'm part of Æthelmearc, and it's only about an hour from my house.

I've chosen to play a 14th century french persona so I can get away with simple kirtles and sideless surcoats for at least a while until I decide to get into garb that's a little more dicey.

I do love to sew, and dream of a Pfaff Tiptronic, but still lovingly caress my current machine as we slog through bad directions and expensive fabric. I love wearing velvet, but hate sewing it, and would give up a cup size to not have to ever sew it again... ;)

At any rate, I'm still trying to develop my persona, but may have found an acceptable name... we'll have to see what the heralds say. I look forward to 'talking shop' with all of you! :)

Christina
(or maybe Julienne la cavatier if it's acceptable)

12:06 am - so, what's everyone working on?

catmcroy
I just got a new royal purple and gold velvet cotehardie *bounce* (mostly purple; with gold gores in the skirt). It's got a full circle skirt and it looks amazing when I dance. As soon as I get pictures developed, I'm posting them!

I didn't sew it - friend did - but I am so in love. It's purple brocade with green velour sleeves, venetian style. I do apologize for the crappy quality of the webcam pictures.

1:05 pm - Had to join

fieryredhead
I've been in the society less than a year and already I feel myself wanting to amass more garb than I know what to do with.

Here are some pictures of random garb:

Mostly garb before I actually goind the SCA

This gown is the first 'period' gown I made, you can see me (sort of) wearing it here along with a french hood I made (I was accepting a Sable Shield in that pic)

This was my 12th Night gown this year. Yes, I know its a movie recreation but the actual gown was based off an actual period portrait (which I don't have a pic online so I cannot link). ;) Tons of beading on that one.

Currently I have 3 cotehardies in the making as well as plans for a high spanish gown.

Anyways! Nice to meet you all!

12:05 pm - Umh Hi

ardentobscurity
Hello -
Total Utter SCA Newbie here (well sort of) . . .
Located in Northshield, I have yet to attend my first event but
I will be going to 12th night.
I have done some work with the Clan Genji household but again never attended an actual event yet.
I used to work at the MN ren fest on the Royal Court as a countess for 5 years and before that I sang in an irish group out there.
( I have gotten for lack of a better term *boo-hissed* at for mentioning that but hey that is where the garb collection got started -_^)
Was sick of being *on* for patrons coupled w/the owner being *ahem* not so nice and quit 2 years ago . . . so here i am.
I hope to start making it to these moots I hear are held on wed.?
i'm working on a persona . . . having a hard time making up my mind.
Then the garb making will begin.
Right now I have quite a bit of garb - my next acquisition is going to be a pendragon leather bodice.
If I had to mention one piece that was my favorite out of what i own it would have to be a full blown replica of a Mary Tudor dress my friend made for me and i adorned. I can post a pic of it later when i am at home if anyone is interested in taking a gander at it.
Ok i am going to type shut up now & hope I don't sound like a total moron but hey what are you gonna do ^_^
Thanks!
LKB
Stickin my neck out . . .eek!

Poll #390001 Garb question

What kind of garb do you go for? (court, "useful" etc)

What nationality do you mainly go for?

What time period are you?

7:31 pm - Update on The Dress

catmcroy
Well the Bransle was fabulous - my seamstress friend (who made the dress) lowered the hem to just above shoe lenght - long enough that they barely peep out from under but short enough that I don't step on the hem while dancing. This is a Good Thing.

Love brocade. Love Italian Ren. Just need to pick up 5.5 meters of sheer white fabric (anything else would be too hot to dance in) for the underdress.

And I performed an act of Garb Karma - I gave this beautiful green brocade gown to a newbie. It always gaped in the front for me (I'm bustier than the original owner of the dress) and it was several inches too short. Said newbie is 2-3" shorter than me and way less busty. Plus green is her colour. So, I have closet space for the crimson brocade :D

5:09 pm - Hey there

mamapduck
So I clicked on a person in dot_cattiness whose journal led me to dot_sex_snark whcih led me to corsetry which led me back to the conversation in dot_sex_snark which included your like to this community so I joined.

Hi. :)

In Society I am Elsa Saxenkammer, current Bard of the Mists in the Kingdom of the West and seneschal of the Province of the Mists (cradle of kingdoms and all that). I am graduating from my viking phase into a later period and my fabulous friend Moira has adopted me as one of her "Garbie Dolls" and has started putting me in coteherdies and italians. I like coteherdies and italians. :) Also, having lost 60 pounds, I like having clothes that show it off. I do not sew myself (sewing machines spontaneously break when I get to close) but love love love new garb.

9:11 pm - Yay! New Garb!

catmcroy
I just picked up a beautiful, beautiful new crimson brocade Italian Ren overdress.
I am sooo much in love - just need to pick up 5.5 meters of some fine white fabric for an underdress (though the seamstress has leant me her underdress until that happens!)

Hopefully I'll get pictures of me in at the event I'm wearing it to on Friday :)
